Located 8 km north of the county seat of Huairou, Yanqi Lake is a beautiful aquatic place at the foot of Yanshan Mountain. The Great Wall is to the north of the Lake, and on the south, there lies the boundless North China plain.
With limpid water, the Lake has a spacious surface. The air in the tourist zone is refreshing, and the landscape beautiful. In spring and autumn, there are flocks of swans on the Lake and so it is got the name -- Yanqi Lake. Which in Chinese means: Swans dwell on lake.

- Drive line: depart from the city, drive alone Jingmi Road to Huairou, and drive alone 111 National Highway to Yanqi Lake
- Bus: Tourist Bus No. 6, 16 at Xuanwumen, Dongdaqiao, Dongsishitiao, North Crossing of Hepingjie get there directly, take Bus No. 916, 936 and take medium bus at Huairou or take Express 1/2, 3/4.

Beijing has distinct seasons. The summer is hot and the winter is cold. The temperature is neither cold nor hot in spring and autumn, but there may be sandstorms in spring. May is the most colorful month in Beijing, many international performances will be shown at that time. The best travel season is from April to November.
The swans will fly to Yanqi Lake every March and August. It is cool in summer there, and tourist could get there to avoid sunstroke.
