Wudang Mountain Scenic Area is situated in Danjiangkou in Hubei Province, not far from Wuhan and comprises of 72 peaks, 36 cliffs and 24 valleys. Its main peak called Heavenly Pillar Peak, which stands at a statuesque 1,612meters and together with the other mist-shrouded peaks, creates a spectacular vision. However physically daunting Wudang Mountain may seem, its natural beauty and exquisite architecture, its rich history mixed with Taoist culture and lore, makes it a worthwhile detour from Wuhan. Steadily Wudang Mountain became home to the grandest temples and held the largest Taoist population in the country. It was honored across China with the sobriquet as “the first famous mountain under heaven.” Today, it’s recognized as an architectural achievement and in 1994, UNESCO bestowed Wudang Mountain World Cultural Heritage status. Wudang Mountain is also world-famous for its distinctive style of martial arts called Wudang Martial. This form of martial arts is highly regarded in China; on par with the skills of the better known Shaolin monks. Created by martial arts exponent Zhang Sanfeng, it’s still practiced by Taoist priests as part of their routine fitness and self-defense exercises. Today, kung fu enthusiasts still flock to Wudang Shan’s martial arts schools to meditate and refine their skills.

- Go around: Take minibus at South Station of downtown to Laoying, the fare is 7 RMB; or take coach to Wandanshan Town, there are many vehicles, which are authorized by related department, and the driver has the experience of driving on the mountain road, moreover, the fare is uniform, you may rest assured. The coach from Wudangshan Town to Nanyan is set off when the coach is full, and it will take you half an hour to get there, the fare is 10 RMB.
- Scenic area traffic: You can take Jampan in Wudang Mountain. It’s more than 10 kilometers step mountain road from Nanyan to Jindian, the fare is 80 RMB. In addition, there are ropeways, one side is Qiongtai Zhongguan, and another side is between the Xiuqiu Peak and Lion Peak, which is 100 meters to Golden Temple. Runtime of one way is no more than half an hour, the fare of double way is 70 RMB.

Shiyan is located on the boundary of Hubei, Sichuan, Shaanxi and Henan Province with complex and multiplicate physiognomy. Most part of that area belongs to subtropical monsoonal mountain climate, abundant light and hot, plentiful rainfall, and annual average temperature is about 15℃, the best time for traveling Shiyan is spring and autumn.
