What to Pack

Pack as little as possible, and bring as much money as possible. It's easy to move around with little luggage, and easier to spend lots of money. In worst case, you can buy the stuffs in China.

[edit] Documents

  • Passport and visa.
  • Green cards if applicable.
  • Plane tickets.
  • Travel itinerary and contact names issued by your travel agent.
  • Places and addresses (in English AND Chinese) of places you will visit.
  • A notebook/memo book with phone and address info.

  • Several hundred dollars of cash.
  • Travelers checks.
  • ATM card, credit cards, and other bank cards.
  • Travel insurance.

[edit] Medicine

  • Some toiletries and medical supplies such as Vitamins, Aspirin, anti-allergic preparations, antibiotics.
  • Cold and digestive medications, lip balm, sanitary napkins and your favorite over-the-counter medicines.
  • Suntan lotion, sun glasses, and maybe raincoat (depending on the places you will visit) in summer.
  • Medical assistance programs if applicable.

Generally bring layered-clothes like shirts, sweaters, and jackets that suit a range of climates. Also wear a comfortable pair of walking shoes. A sports coat and tie for man, and one or two dresses or pantsuits for women.

  • Razor, and other personal hygiene products.
  • Small electrical converter and adapter plugs.
  • Rechargeable batteries.
  • Chewing gum, mints, or throat lozenges to keep your mouth moist.
  • A travel guide, maps and a couple of books to kill the time.
  • Camera, camcorder, and computer notebook.
  • Films, memory cards.
