Tangshan (唐山) is located in the eastern part of Hebei Province. It's about 112 miles (180 km) to the east of Beijing, 75 miles (120 km) to the northeast of Tianjin and 78 miles (125 km) to the west of Qinhuangdao.

Tangshan is physically divided into three areas: the northern mountainous areas (end of southern slope of Yanshan Mountain), the central plain area, and the southern 124-mile coastline. Tangshan was largely rebuilt after suffering a 8.2 magnitude earthquake in 1976, which destroyed most part of the city.
