Please note that when buying a train ticket that some train tickets can be purchased 10 days in advance and some only 3 days in advance. Also, the tickets must be purchased from the city of orign (eg. if you are traveling from Beijing to Zhengzhou you can not purchase your return ticket while in Beijing, you must wait and purchase the return ticket to Beijing once you arrive in Zhengzhou). This can be tricky if the trip is short (one or two days) and you do not have anyone in your destination city to purchase the ticket in advance for you. It is possible to find yourself in your destination city with no return ticket back because of holidays or some other reason for lack of tickets available for the day and time you would like to travel.
