Zhengzhou & places of interest

Hello frens,
I am preparing my itinerary for a month travel in China. I need help on places of interest in Zhengzhou, my last stop. As I would be coming into Zhengzhou by train from Xian, the first thing I would do is look for a hotel. I would like to see the Shaolin martial art school and any other places of interest.
1) Can someone help which is a good hotel, price about RMB 300 per night?
2) Is 2 full days enough for sight seeing?
3) I was told the airport is quite far from town. Any idea what is the taxi fare?
Thanks folks!
Peter

Hi, Peter,
Do you mind log in/create an account before you post? Generally, other community members are more willing to help other members (rather than guests) for many reasons I'm sure you can see.
Thanks.

1) For high end, try Sofitel Zhengzhou, Phone: 0371 - 65950088
For mid-range, try Henan Civil Aviation Hotel, Phone: 0371 - 65781111
A 3~3.5 star one but they claim as 4 star. But they are convenient as the airport shuttle runs between the airport and this hotel. Also Holiday Inn Zhengzhou is nearby on the same road.
2) For Zhengzhou (mainly Shaolin Temple and Songshan Mountain), 2 days will let you feel very relaxed if not get you bored. However, you can hop on a train, ride for 1~1.5 hours, and visit nearby Kaifeng (2 days. 72km away), Luoyang (2 days. 124km away).
3) airport is about 30km (40min for shuttle bus). 15 RMB for shuttle bus, and about 80 RMB for a taxi.

Just want to clarify. Although Songshan Mountain and Shaolin Temple are under the jurisdiction of Zhengzhou, it's actually about 85km from Zhengzhou, and closer to Luoyang. See the below map for the location.

RE: Zhengzhou & places of interest
1) I've never personally stayed at this hotel. But out of curiosity, I looked at the comments on ctrip.com (see http://www.ctrip.com/community/comment/R...urce=14330), and I'm summarizing the general comments about this hotel in English as below:
Not exactly a great hotel, about 2.5 star level, and it's a bit old. May lack some amenities like high-speed internet. But it's at a convenient location, and should be inexpensive.
2) One day for Shaolin Temple, Shongshan, and other places in Luoyang is a bit short, but 2-day can be relaxed. Cost? Should be surprisingly cheap. Maybe $50/person for one day's tickets, foods, and train/bus.
3) Not too many well-known places come to my mind for Zhengzhou, except for The Yellow River Scenic Area at northwest of the city (30km from downtown). But for nearby places, there are Shaolin Temple, Longmen Grottoes, Yellow River Xiaolangdi, and Yuntaishan Scenic Area (in Jiaozuo, about 100km from Zhengzhou or Luoyang).
