Shennong Peak Scenic Area is located at the southwest of Shennongjia, with a total area of about 883.6 square kilometers, it is a natural ecological tour area taking the well-reserved primitive ecological system as the background, and ecological multiplicity as the characteristics, embodying the harmonious co-existence between human and the nature as the theme, and it is one of the key scenic area in Shennongjia. In the scenic area, resources of animals and plants are very rich, with a well-protected subtropical forest ecological system. Its biological multiplicity has significance globally. The complete forest ecological system has an important and realistic significance for the ecological balance of the middle and lower reaches of the whole Yangtze River and the whole Central China region, and has become a natural barrier for Central China, known as “Green Treasury”, “Plant Gene Bank”, “Natural Zoo”, “Hundred Herbal Medicine Garden” and “Shelter for Animal and Plants on the Verge of Extinction”. The highest peak- Shennong Peak amounts to 3105.4 meters, called “the First Peak in Central China”. Its unique geological environment and complex and multiple climate types has created the mysterious legend of this verdant and beautiful forest world, and become the natural scenic area of China, with most attractiveness and representation, it is praised as irreplaceable world monopolized tour resource by relevant experts, and it is an ideal famous scenic area of ecological tour.

- Get in: Take coach at Coach Station of Xinhua Road from Wuhan to Shennongjia, there is a sleeper coach from Wuhan to Xingshan County at 8:00 every night and get to Xingshan at 6:00 in next morning, and the fare is 90 RMB per person. There is minibus at Xingshan to Shennongjia Muyu Village (60 kilometers), and a shift in half an hour, the fare is 10 RMB per person. You can take train from Wuhan to Shiyan (The time of the train is 10:00 at night and get to Shiyan at 6:00 in next morning), and then take coach at 7:30, in this way you can get to Shengnongjia at noon. There are double way coaches at the Dangyang, Laohekou, Baokang, Fangxian, Xingshan and Zigui etc. places to Shengnongjia.
- Scenic area traffic: Shengnongjia Scenic Area has a convenient traffic, each regular bus setting off before 7:30am via all scenic areas. If missed regular bus, you can charter minibus, and the fare is 200 RMB per day.

- 1. Because of big forest, inconvenient traffic, and some place is not to be opened to tourists; you’d better lead by guard in order to avoid getting lost.
- 2. You’d better wear hat, long sleeve suits and trousers and constrict the cuff and the bottom of trousers, and put on boot, in order to prevent biting from poison worm and snakes.
- 3. If encounter the rainstorm, you have to recognize direction, and find an open level ground, in this way, you are not get lost, nor strike by lightning.
- 4. Requirement: airproof container (pack match and raincoat), protective glasses, knife, rope and compass.

Shennongjia Forest Area with rolling and continuous mountain range, high mountain and thick forest has a highland vertical climate with subtropical belt, warm temperate belt, temperate belt and cold temperature belt etc. manifold climate types.
