Kaifeng Qingming Riverside Landscape Garden, also known as Millennium River Park, is a well-known scenic tourist spot along the Yellow River. Located on the west bank of Longting Lake in Kaifeng city, Henan province, the park showcases the beauty and prosperity of Kaifeng 1,000 years ago, when Kaifeng was the capital of Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127AD). Covering an area of about 600 mu (about 100 acres), including 180 mu of water surface, it is the largest Song-dynasty-style compound in China with more than 50 ancient boats, 400 houses and over 30,000 square meters of landscapes.
Millennium Riverside Park is based on a Song Dynasty painting called Going Upriver for Qingming Festival. It illustrates Song Dynasty daily life, shops and workshops. The original version of the picture was drawn by Zhang Zeduan, a well-known artist in North Song dynasty. Entering the park, visitors will experience going back in time to Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127) in China, and relive the history of Song Dynasty's prosperous, innovative and glorious years.
The structures in the Millennium Park are simple and elegant surrounded by beautiful scenic settings, reflecting an eternal theme of harmony between man and nature. Spreading across the park is a series of folk-custom and Song culture themed scenes such as ball-kicking, swinging on the water, women’s riding, cock and dog fight, shadow play of the Royal, puppet on the water, music and dance scenes. Other activities include ancient rock climbing, exploration and drift in ghost valley, competitive tender on the water and other types of Song dynasty entertainment. The park is the largest ancient-themed amusement park in central China. Many scenes reflect folk-customs and artisan’s life of the Song dynasty. A day in the park will make you feel delighted and satisfied, and give you an unforgettable experience of reliving the glorious days of Song Dynasty.
