Great Buddhist mountains in China.

[edit] Description

As one of the four great Buddhist mountains and the key landscape of China, Located in the southwest of Qingyang County, west of Anhui province, Jiuhuashan (zh:九华山) is one of the four great Buddhist mountains in China. The mountain range consists of 99 mountains, 18 scenic spots, and covers a total area of 120 square kilometers. At its hiatus, its 150 temples once housed three to four thousand monks and nuns. Jiuhuashan earns its great name by its beauty and its elegance. When "poetry immortal" Libai of Tang Dynasty visited it, he felt the nine mountains were like nine lotus obliged by heaven. He then composed a poem "Watch Jiuhuashan from a Distance", praising it that "it is wonderful and has its own soul." From then on, Jiuhuashan became famous all over China. Later, Korean dignitary JinQiaojue came to Jiuhuashan to cultivate himself according to the Buddhist doctrine. It is said that Dizang Boddhisattva was reincarnated in him. He helped those in difficulties and has boundless beneficences.

“Thousands of people burned joss of sticks everyday.”

Jiuhuashan is not only famous for its Buddhist temples, but also for its many beautiful views. Within the 120 square kilometers’ boundary, there are grotesque mountains, strange rocks, springs, waterfalls and brooks. You can hear the beating of the drum and bell as well as the singing of the bird, and you can see the grotesque pines among the mist. It is very charming. Liu Yuxi, a poet in Tang Dynasty praised that: “It is shocking to see the great mountain.” Litterateur Wang Anshi in Song Dynasty wrote that: “This mountain is greater than thousands of other mountains in Chu and Yue.” Great mountains are all accompanied with beautiful waters. The water in the brook is crystal in Jiuhuashan. There are lots of springs, ponds, lakes and waterfalls such as Long Brook, Piao Brook, Shu Brook, Cao Brook, Lian Brook, Lan Brook and Jiuzi Brook. They all originate among the mountains of Jiuhuashan and appear among the trees. There are five waterfalls on Long Brook, they come down to the brook very quickly, and the splattered water is like snow and jade. The same is to Nong Zhu Pond. In addition, there are Bitaoyan Waterfall, Zhuo Ying Waterfall, Qibuquan Waterfall, Baizhangjian Waterfall, Baizhangtan Waterfall, etc. For the ponds, there are Yinyuan Pond, Qingyi Pond, Zhuoying Pond, Fulong Pond, Baizhang Pond, NianYu Pond. They are just “hidden in the mountain and were known to nobody, but once they are seen, they are not forgotten forever.”

Tourists should not make loud noise, criticize, satire the temple and go wherever they want, especially do not touch the idols. When encountering a Buddhist ceremony, they should watch in silence or walk away. Tourists should keep an eye on their children lest they behave rudely because of innocence.
