[edit] Description

Mount Emeishan (zh:峨眉山) is located in the southern part of Sichuan Province. Along with Mount Wutaishan (zh:五台山), Mount Jiuhuashan (zh:九华山, and Mount Putuoshan (zh:普陀山), Mount Emeishan is one of the four Buddhist sacred mountains of China. It is of spiritual/religious significance, and has been served as an important destination for pilgrimage since ancient time. At 3,099 m, Mt. Emei is more than 1,000 m higher than the other three Buddhist sacred mountains.

Thanks to its breathtaking scenery, mysterious natural wonders, and numerous temples and monasteries, Mount Emeishan has been designated a World Heritage Site since 1996. Great spectacles of Mount Emei include the sunrise and Clouds Sea seen from the Golden Summit of the mountain. For those visitors short on time or physically challenged, a sedan chair carried by people, minibuses, or cable cars are great choices. However, a full day's hike to the summit is an unforgettable experience undertaken by many.
