| Short Description: | Centering around springs, Baotu Spring Park is a natural rock and spring garden unique in ethnic style. Baotu Spring, the best one among the famous 72 springs in Jinan, is hailed as "the first spring under the heaven", the spring water spurts out in three prongs, with water droplets falling around, just like three piles of snow, which is very spectacular. The spring water is very sweet, optimum for making tea, which is limpid in color, rich in aroma, good in taste. Sitting under the "Watching Crane Pavilion" in the east side of the spring with a cup of tea in hand, one's mind will fly faraway and hates to leave. Throughout history, Baotu Spring Park is the performing place for talk-show and local opera. During the weekend, some classical pieces of Peking Opera, such as "seeking a rich son-in-law" and "watch-Yangzi River pavilion", will be performed under the "White Snow Building". Tourists can also enjoy some local special opera here, like Lü Ju and Liuzi Opera. "Bamboo Woods Garden" takes a land of 18 mu and the garden got its name in the Yuan dynasty, when the garden was very large and full of bamboo. In the garden lie some famous springs, including Wangshui Spring, Donggao Spring and Baiyun Spring, four pavilions, five bridges and one flower garden. In 1985, the Memorial Hall of Li Kuchan was established here and now the "Bamboo Grove Garden" is attached to the Baotu Spring Park. Festival Activities: Lantern Festival: It has a long history. Since January 15th was set as Lantern Festival by Emperor Tangtaizong, Jinan has this habit to light lanterns, and gradually form the tradition. The theme of the Lantern Festival is vivid, the features are striking, it integrates art with folk customs. The festival begins on January 1st in Chinese Calendar, and lasts for a month, it has become one of the famous culture brand of Jinan, and the punch product of tourism in winter.Chrysanthemum Exhibition: It also has a long history. Li Qingzhao, a famous female poet of Song dynasty record the habit of Jinan people. Since the end of 1970s, chrysanthemum exhibition has been held next to Baotu Spring, and it becomes a tradition. Since then, every year from the end of October to the end of November, this exhibition will be held. The best chrysanthemums will be shown here, with rocks decoration, they are like exquisite art objects.Spring Culture FestivalSpring Culture Festival is hold every end of Semptember when springs gushing out. The festival lasts for ten days. There are various activities, such as opera, folk customs, painting and calligraphy exhibitions, acrobatics, etc. Lots of tourists are attracted. Lantern Riddles This activity has been held since 1994. Every spring festival, lantern riddles made by masters from over 20 provinces, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapre will be hung there. The activity begins on January 5th, and ends on January 13th in Chinese Calendar, sometimes it will be prolonged. This activity enjoys a high fame all over the world, and the number of participants is over 100 thousand.Watch Operas:Various kinds of opera including Peking Opera are shown in Baotu Spring every holiday.Tasting TeaTasting tea made of the water of Baotu Spring has a long history. The water is sweet and clear, the tea made by it is pure. The water is higher than the brim of the cup but it does not overflow. Now Wanhe Pavillion Tea House, Tongleyuan Tea House, Wanzhuyuan Tea House and the Night Square are best venues to taste tea. |

Beautiful Baotu Spring Park is located in the centre of Jinan City, and it is here that you will find the Baotu Spring. In the past, the Baotu Spring only covered 4 mu (about two thirds of an acre). The park itself was originally established in 1956 and more recently has been extended to 158 mu (about 26 acres). This highly valued facility represents the symbol of Jinan City and is regarded as one of the three major places of interest in Jinan. This park is highly regarded as a well known scenic spot which makes an ideal location for admirers of wonderful natural springs, culture and various constructions.
Baotu Spring is located in the centre of Baotu Spring Park and is renowned as the best of the 72 springs in Jinan. Since ancient times, many famous poems and prose have been written relating to its unique beauty. According to experts' research, this spring has a history of 3,543 years, dating back to the Shang Dynasty (16th –11th BC). The special geographical structure in Jinan creates the special Baotu Spring. The spring pool is rectangular in shape, stretching about 30 meters (about 98 feet) west to east and about 18 meters (about 59 feet) north to south. Spring water pours out from the underground limestone cave throughout the night and day, sometimes reaching its maximum of 240,000 cubic meters per day. When water bursts out from the three outlets, the spring creates thunderous sounds and sprays water jets. Sometimes water columns are created that reach as high as 26.49 meters (about 86.9 feet), making a real spectacle.
The spring retains its temperature at 18 degree Celsius (64.4 degree Fahrenheit) all year round. In cold winter, water mist rises and floats over the spring pool like clouds. Ancient pavilions and halls with colorful drawings and carvings reflect in the clear water creating a landscape virtually emulating paradise.
Pure in quality and mellow in taste, the spring water is ideal for drinking and making tea. Tea tasting is a favorite past time here. There is a saying here that you will spoil your Jinan tour if you do not drink the tea brewed with Baotu Spring water. To the east of the spring is the famous Wangheting Teahouse, where you can recreate the moment when past Emperors sat there, tasting tea and enjoying the beautiful scenic delights of Baotu Spring.
What's more, the traditional and very popular Lantern Festival and Chrysanthemum Show are also held here every year, which greatly highlights the cultural significance and importance of this beautiful and very impressive scenic spot. There's no doubt that visitor's will be struck with this very memorable place.
