[edit] Description
The Landing Stage, one of the city’s icons, stretches from the southern tip of Zhongshan Road, south of the city, into the Qingdao Bay. It was initially set up in the Qing Dynasty and extensions were made in 1931, making it 440m long and 8m wide. On the Landing Stage is an octagonal pavilion, named Huilan Pavilion (pavilion of rebounding waves). Inside the pavilion, a staircase wounds itself up to a circular chamber, from which one can grasp a great view over the ocean and land. Of the ten sceneries of Qingdao, the Huilan Pavilion is ranked the first. The Landing Stage Garden, also called Stage End Garden, is built on the beach at the stage’s end. The garden contains green lawns, colourful flowers, vine plants and pavilions provided as shades for tourists. Looking at it from a distance, the Landing Stage appears like a rainbow over the sea, with waves clashing against the seashore from time to time. The Landing Stage is generally accepted as a must see destination for travellers to Qingdao from China or abroad.
