[edit] Description

Huanglong is a small nature reserve (compared with Jiuzhaigou) in north Sichuan Province. Huanglong got its name from its ubiquitous yellow rocks. The scenery in Huanglong is similar to Jiuzhaigou with breathtaking landscapes covered with the blue ponds, carpets of flowers and the yellow rocks.

While Jiuzhaigou is a large national park with many features, Huanglong consists of a section of highly mineralized stream that flows through the length of the park. The minerals leave a yellow deposit on the rocks to form yellow rocks. The water is blue and crystal clear because it's inhospitable to microlife.

The park can be hiked in half a day (compared with 3~5 days in Jiuzhaigou).

[edit] Direction

Huanglong is about 2 hours' drive from Jiuzhaigou. Both parks belong to the same Minshan Mountain range. But Huanglong is up in the mountains with an average altitude of over 3000 meters.

The road between Huanglong and Jiuzhaigou passes some interesting Tibetan villages and a wonderful scenery.
