[edit] Description

The Huangguoshu Waterfall is located about 150 km to the southwest of Guiyang. It is composed of about 18 above-ground and underground waterfalls, and is the largest waterfall in Asia with 74 meters (243 feet) in height and 81 meters (266 feet) in width. Named after a popular local plant called "Yellow Fruit Tree", the Huangguoshu Waterfall is known for its grand waterfall and water curtains formed by its some 18 clustered waterfalls. A reservoir leading to the waterfall holds back some water.

The Huangguoshu Waterfall is a section of Baishui River (白水河, or White Water River), the main river connecting Yunnan and Guizhou. The river flowing through the area is broken into 9 sections, each with different level of terrains. Huangguoshu Waterfall is the section with highest water drop-down.

There is a 134 meter long cave, called Water-Curtain Cave (or 水帘洞), stands right behind the Huangguoshu Waterfall. There are six cave windows, and 2 smaller waterfalls inside the cave. Visitors can feel, hear and touch the thunderous waterfall from there. It's a wonderful place to enjoy the waterfall.

The water from the fall runs into the 11 meters (36 feet) deep Xiniu Pond (犀牛潭, or Rhinoceros Pond). Legend says someone witnessed Rhinoceros (or Xiniu) climbed out of the namesake pond. Other say the pond got its name because it is Rhinoceros shaped.
