Diqing, officially called Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, is located in northwest part of Yunnan province. It's in an area bordering Sichuan, and Tibet. Its capital is at Shangri-La County, about 608 kms away from Kunming, the capital of Yunnan province. Per year 2006 census, Diqing has a population of 323,556, among which the majority is Tibetan (about 23%). covering an area of 23.870 km².
