1. Create an account. You do not have to log in to read ChinaTravelGuide. You do not have to log in even to edit articles on ChinaTravelGuide — just about anyone can edit most articles at any given time, even without logging in. Nevertheless, creating an account is quick, free and non-intrusive, and it is generally considered a good idea to do so for a variety of reasons (such as avoid blocked shared IP address, start new pages, upload images, etc.).
2. Create a personal page. Tell the traveler community about yourself. You can visit and edit your own personal page after creating an account or logging in, then clicking your username in the box to the right of the page.
3. Submit review, news and deals. You can submit travel news, deals, tips, and upload photos, videos, in the their respective sections. You can write a review, and add more detailed info for hotels, restaurants, attractions, etc.
4. Edit an existing page. You can edit most pages you find on this web site; just click the edit button at the top of the article. The list of new articles is a good place to start since most new articles need multiple contributors to make them stable and complete. You can also find older articles by browsing categories, or by selecting the "Random Page" option from the "Toolbox" list. Sometimes you can help by adding content to an incomplete article to make it as a more useful, full-length article. Other times you can make formatting changes and improvements to an existing article (aka copyedit an article), which typically involves correcting spelling, terminology, punctuation, and grammatical and semantic errors. Another time you can just add related articles and knit them together by linking pages together. Refer to our Writer's Guide for writing guidelines.
5. Start a new article. If your search shows the topic is not already covered, or you find that there should be an article at the other end of the links of the existing articles, by all means start writing it! Share your unique knowledge with other users. In addition, you can look at a list of requested articles, and pick one you know something about.
6. Answer a request. Every day, ChinaTravelGuide members suggest articles on topics they need help with. If you know how to do anything that other users need to know more about, this is your chance to pitch in and help. Be sure to check first, though. Some suggested articles have already been written. Do a search.
7. Post comments on the discussions page. You can add your comment, suggestion about an article you read on ChinaTravelGuide to its discussion page by just clicking the "Toolbox" and select "Discuss this Page" from the list of options. You can offer your feedback on the article's content, or share personal experience in regards to the content.
8. Delete vandalism and nonsense when you find it. You can find previous versions of pages that have been vandalized in the page history of any pages.
