Bozhou is located in the northwestern part of Anhui province. It borders Bengbu to the southeast, Huainan to the south, Fuyang to the southwest, Henan province to the north, and Huaibei to the northeast. Bozhou administers one city and three counties: Bozhou city (亳州市), Guoyang County (涡阳县), Lixin County (利辛县), and Mengcheng County (蒙城县). The total population is about 5.39 million, among which ethnic minorities such as Hui, Mongols, Zhuang, Manchu make up about 1.5% or 82,000 people.

Cao Cao (曹操), the emperor of the Eastern Han Dynasty, Hua Tuo (华佗), a renowned physician, and Hua Mulan (花木兰), the legendary heroine who joined the army for her father, all call Bozhou as their birthplace.
